As your partner in oral health, it’s no secret that we care about your smile—and that goes beyond your teeth and gums. Having a healthy tongue is important. Get ready to say “ahhhh” …here’s a bit more about what your tongue says about your health!
If your tongue has a white coating, you might be suffering from oral thrush, which occurs from yeast overgrowth. Other times, a white tongue occurs when you don’t brush your tongue enough.
If your tongue is sensitive, you may have a food allergy to something you’ve just eaten or you could be developing a mouth sore.
If your tongue looks hairy, don’t worry—it’s not actual hair. “Hairy tongue” can be caused by a build-up of protein that causes bumps to elongate and trap food, giving the appearance of hair.
If your tongue has red bumps, you may be suffering from a high fever.
